Katie found yoga in 2013 after a career move brought her and her husband to Charlotte from Asheville. Katie has her Bachelors of Science in Communication Studies and her minor in Marketing. Lonely in a new city, she was searching online for a group exercise class and thought she would give yoga a try. The first class she tried was heated power yoga. She was sore for three days after the first class and she knew that if she went back she would start to see powerful results. She came to rely on yoga as a tool to manage stress, build friendships, and physically and mentally challenge herself. After working in the HR field for a few years and teaching part time, she decided to leave the corporate world in 2017 to teach full time. Katie is passionate about prenatal/postnatal and power yoga. She also enjoys teaching deep stretch and restorative yoga. Her teaching style is mostly inspired by the teachers Baron Baptiste, B.K.S Iyengar, Judith Lasater, and Pattabhi Jois. Katie creates a balance of power and ease and encourages her students to try new things regularly. this allows them to step outside of their comfort zone and find growth in their practice. She also incorporates her love of dance in her sequencing by ensuring the sequence makes sense flowing gracefully from one pose to the next. She takes time to get to know her students needs and enjoys talking to them about poses they are working on, poses she can offer to alleviate tightness in the body, and any areas of growth she can contribute to in their practice. Yoga is an amazing practice because it meets you where you are, anyone can do yoga and there are always new places of growth to aim for in your practice!
