From Amy Brown (race participant):
I ran this 260+ mile relay its inaugural year, in 2018. This is now its fourth year and my second time participating. Part of this Run For 3.21 Relay Team will be running, relay-style, taking turns running, in-person from NYC to Washington D.C., and others of the team, like myself, will be running the relay virtually from our home communities. Over the course of the weekend of the race (March 19 - March 21), I will run about 40 miles, spread over about 6-9 legs at a time, day and night, all here in Fort Mill and Tega Cay, SC!
I run for my son, Christopher, who is 22 years old and was born with Down syndrome. We have lived in Lake Wylie/Clover SC for the last 20 years and are moving to Tega Cay this Thursday! Chris is out of school now, but was a very active student athlete at Clover High School and Clover Middle School, both on the wrestling team and in Special Olympics and in Let Me Run, a running group for boys. He has a bright smile and a big heart with a very bright future, thanks to all those who have supported him over the years.
I run for Christopher and with the NDSS to raise awareness and for those with Down syndrome and to help support national efforts for legislation to help improve their quality of life. Christopher has proven us and doctors wrong so many times with all of the milestones he has reached and withall his many accomplishments. You will enjoy meeting him! (I can't remember if you met him back in 2018 when we were fundraising for NDSS the first time!)
We celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21 because it is 3-21! 3-21 represents the three copies of the 21st chromosome that identifies "Down syndrome".
Our relay event will culminate at our nation's capital on World Down Syndrome Day, March 21. We will, of course, run virtually with the team here from our SC home!
Christopher and I have a goal of raising $3500 before March 21 and we are so grateful for your willingness to help support us and help us reach that goal!
