Even as a child, Alissa enjoyed dance and physical movement and sports. She moved into aerobic dance and personal training as an adult. In the early 1990’s Alissa began her spiritual practice because of her grandmother who encouraged her to find a way to grow herself spiritually and physically with yoga. Battling weight and several severe health issues after having 3 of her own children, Alissa began practicing yoga and Zumba as a form of stress relief and recovery. As yoga combines physical exercise and meditation, it has become her life’s passion, helping her through several major life challenges.
In 2002, after moving to Charlotte from Maryland and Oregon, she began work as a Registered Medical Assistant, NASM personal trainer, and Medical Massage Therapist. Alissa also became certified as a Yoga and Zumba teacher for adults and children. Alissa's yoga classes emphasize the flow of energy through the body, encouraging each student to be aware of their own rhythms and experience their natural vitality.
She is registered with the Yoga Alliance and expects to be teaching and practicing and volunteering yoga for the rest of her life. Alissa practices self-awareness and self-growth, and wants to make it her personal mission to help others who would like to share this journey. She has affiliations with Yoga Alliance, American Medical Technologies, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Alissa carries a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education.
